Swimming Sports
It was a cloudy but glary day as we hopped off the bus at Southbridge pool. The air was cold and the ground was damp. There was lots of noisy chatter as we slowly enter the gates of the pool. The first job was the changing rooms to get into our togs and then down the seats to find a place to sit.
The first race was called. Children laughed and shuffled as they got ready. They were scared to touch the freezing water. Suddenly before you knew it Simon’s clappers went off like a gun fire. The contestants dived in, water splashed everywhere.
The races continued, we started with freestyle, then backstroke followed by breaststroke. Lots of cheering went on for all the competitors. The pyjama race was the huge excitement for everyone.
The goose bumped children sat shivering as they pulled their once warm towels around them. But still they were laughing and having a good time.
After what seemed like a short time it was time for fun. We lined up behind the hydra slide ready to all zip down one by one. The big splash of water whipped your face as you hit the end.
Congratulations to all students who competed in the Springston School swimming sports and who made it to Zones. Thank you to all parents and teacher who helped out. And once again another special thanks to Wendy Hamlin for organising the bus trips and swimming events.
