Young Girl Died
At midnight last night a young girl
died a tragic death
caused by a bear. His name
was Baby Bear. He became
so angry and frustrated
because Goldilocks broke into their
house, broke his chair, ate his
porridge and slept in his bed.
So when she came back
the very same day
Baby Bear had set a trap
and that is how Goldilocks died
a tragic death.

Gavin Bishop Visits Springston School
Today we had Gavin Bishop the author come to visit us at Springston School. He came and told us about his book Teddy One Eye and also read some of his book called Piano Rock. The stories he told were about his childhood and growing up in Kingston. It was interesting to hear about his life growing up. Some of the children asked for his autograph afterwards.
Here is a photo of Teddy One Eyed and Gavin at school.

All Black Day
On Wednesday last week the whole school dressed up in black to celebrate the success of the All Blacks at the Rugby World Cup and to welcome back Mrs Carter from the Rugby final in London. We are really proud of her son Daniel Carter and all the All Blacks.
Group Day
On the 5 November it was group day at Greenpark Domain which is only a 5 minute ride from my house. Here are the people from Springston School who went to Group Day. You needed to do a project about your animal to go.
I got 2nd for my chickens. My plan was to be the only one to have a chicken but then school had a chick adoption and then heaps of people brought them.
The Wolf
His alerted ears hears a slight rustle of leaves, his beady eyes instantly dart to the sound of the rustling leaves. What he finds pleases him because there is a young buck trying to untangle himself from the intertwined roots of the pine tree. The wolf starving and impatient stealthily sneaks across the dried leaves and pine needles. The wolf pounces and sinks his sharp teeth into the soft tender flesh. He twists the neck of the deer as blood spews out like a fountain.
When the wolf has finished the deer he makes his way down to a stream to wash the gore from his matted fur. He makes his way home....
Top Team
Top Team is a day where years 5-8 do tons of fun team building challenges. On the day we were split into teams that were based on our house teams. There were 2 water challenges. One of them was where a big pipe had a ping-pong ball at the bottom and your team had to pour water down the pipe But the pipe had holes drilled in it - so your team had to use their fingers to plug the holes. The other one was where you had to carry a bucket of water that had holes drilled through it and you had to carry the bucket across a obstacle course. These were fun challenges.
My Character Description
The Last Words of Alfar Hunter
The tide of the battle is changing, I can hear the triumphant battle cries of men, dwarves and elves alike. But their cries soon turn to hoarse screams, the enemy is here. I rush toward the sound of the commotion to a horrible sight, the Dark Lord, surrounded by the bodies of his foes. Aenox is a monstrous sight, his helmet is pointed like a black crown. Where his eyes should be there is only bottomless pits of evil. I struggle to comprehend how we are going to defeat this killer. His very armour is engraved with the faces of the tortured souls of his enemies. His hands crackle with power, all stemming from that helmet. He is a cruel and vicious tyrant, and he will show no mercy...
Book Day
On Monday the 2 November we had book day. For Book Day we get to dress up as our favourite book character. We had judges who went around Step, Stride, Sprint, and Sonic and picked a winner from each of these sections.
The winner from Step was Freya. She dressed up as the Rainbow Fish.
The winner from Stride was Taylor. She dressed up as a book rather than dressing up as a character. The winner from Sprint was Henry. He dressed up as Steve from Minecraft.
The winner from Sonic was Bryn. He dressed up as Hagrid from Harry Potter.
Overall I think this was very fun we all had a great day.
Scene Description - The boy and the birds
In the past few weeks Sonic have been looking at fairytales. Specifically describing a scene. Here is my scene description:
The Boy and the Birds
The young boy exits the tree he once entered. He looks up and he'd never seen it so beautiful.
The sunlight was peeking through the trees and the wind was whistling. You could only hear the chirping birds and the buzzing insects. The birds followed him as he crossed the wooden bridge. It squeaked as it broke the deafening silence. The boy then wandered up to the the nearest tree and he ran his hand along it. He could feel the soft moss as it passed through his hand. After that he carefully sits down on a rock and he curiously looks forward and beyond the green bush. His eyes widen.
The boy jumps up startled and he then streams down the dry dirt and along the twisted path. The birds are still following him and as he gets closer he sees…

Character Description
This Term Sonic have to write and describe a fairy tale character. We have to go through all these steps and the once you have completed it you can publish it in your publishing book.
Heres my example:
Heres my example:
Young and Dumb
As she skipped along the path her long, blonde, silky hair blew in the wind. She came to the door, banged and crashed but no one was home. So she stormed in. Goldilocks was young and dumb and very impulsive, she was so careless she destroyed their house. First she gobbled up Papa bears porridge into her mouth but didn't like it because it was too hot. Next she crammed Mumma bears but it was too cold. Finally she strode to Baby Bears and it was just right.
Stomping her feet against the floorboards she reached the chairs. Sits on all of them, breaks one, and makes herself at home!
Yawning her head off she finds three beds...

This term for reading team sonic are doing fairy tales. We have had a quiz on the subject and we have learnt more about different types and how to write them.
Buddies With Wendy
On Monday, our buddy groups got spilt up to different teachers, to try new activities.
My buddies and I were with Wendy and we got to make Who Am I books.
In week 4, it is our Book Week, and the theme is 'Under the Sea' so the theme of our Who Am I were sea creatures.
My buddy and I chose a turtle, and our first step was make three clues, then draw a picture of our animal, and then decorate our books.
I can't wait to see all of them in the Library on book week!

Koru Games
For three days, most of the year 7 and 8 seniors of Springston school went the Koru games. It is a new thing that opened up last year and gives kids a chance to do sport that they probably can't do at school. The choices were rugby 7s, touch, table tennis, lawn bowls, netball, swimming, and many more. There is a opening and closing ceremony. The opening ceremony is where they tell you about the games and the closing ceremony is when they give out the medals.
The whole thing went from Tuesday to Thursday. I did touch and my team did really well.
On Tuesday we only had one game because the other game had a bye. Each game went for 30 minutes. We lost by miles at our first game.
On Wednesday we had 4 games so it was a long day. We lost our first game, won our second and lost our third but won our last game of the day.
On the last day the touch team had 2 games and we won by miles with the first game but our last game we drew with Prebbleton. It was 3 all. Zayden nearly got a try but the guy in the other team 'touched him'.
The Koru Games are a lot of fun and is a great thing to do because you get three days with no school.

Inquiry
Yesterday Team Sonic had to make an presentation for our parents to look at. We had to provide them with information about going to the moon, what would we do, where would we live, how are we going to get up there. We also had to think about the people staying on earth and what they needed to.
We got a lot of people visit our presentation about how we would get to the moon and our game was a big hit. There was only one teacher who got them all right.

Planting At Chamberlains Ford
On Friday the 10 September a group of 10 people from Sonic went to Chamberlains Ford to plant 650 trees for the community. It was very hot so we made sure to keep hydrated.
Besides planting we also got to explore what bugs were in the river. Jojo and I found a rare bug that only lives in high quality waters which means that the water in the Selwyn is in good condition at the moment.
We also got to do an activity called the canopy walk and build a nest to see how many rocks we could fit into it.
This was a really good experience for us to feel what it feels like to help the world and be a part of it.

Saving Planet Earth - Term 3 Inquiry
On Tuesday 22 September Team Sonic have organised a open day for parents and visitors. The world is starting to disintegrate and some of us will need to leave to live on the moon while the rest stay and help to regenerate earth.
For our inquiry mission we have investigated how we will travel to the moon, how we will live on the moon and how we can regenerate earth. We have been working on our inquiry subject for the past two weeks and have been working hard on their presentation and projects.
This is a photo of Georgia trying on the space suit for the trip.
Term 3 Inquiry
For inquiry, the senior room are doing a scenario where we need to send a big percentage of the world to the moon for 200 years.
They are doing this to give the earth time and space to regenerate.
We have been put into different groups to work on different things.
A few examples are; researching and educating people about earths problems, solving the problems, getting to the moon, the space station design and the space suit.
We will be presenting our research on Tuesday 22 September.

Buddy Writing
Friends by Adele, Paris and Lucy
Tip tap tip tap, waiting for the rain to stop. Marmalade the cat and Bidgy the budgie were hoping the rain would stop so they could play together. They sat at the old rusty windowsill looking at the stormy rain bucketing down before them. They couldn’t wait to play their favourite game of tag.
Marmalade and Bidgy had been friends since the petshop days and liked to pretend they were hunters in the wild, and of course tag! The friends were starting to get bored, so they went to the kitchen to find something to play with. They started looking around and what should they find, but a yellow bouncy ball. Marmalade rolled it away with her paw, as Bidgy flew after it.
This new game had started to interest them. They called it ‘runball.’ They played for hours and hours until they both became extremely tired, so they cuddled up in front of the fire.
They slept for a very long time.
When they finally woke up, the friends jumped up onto the windowsill, the sun was peering out of the clouds. With a ‘meow’ and a ‘screech,’ Marmalade and Bidgy scrambled towards the door to finish the day with a fun game of tag.

Cooking at Technology
At tech the cooking group made themed cupcakes. We could use fondant, lollies, marshmallow, sprinkles and anything we wanted to bring.
Some of them turned out really good and others not so much but at least they tried. The cupcakes were very yum and everyone had fun.
From this session I learnt that the orange fruit lollies are the yummiest.

School camp at Tekapo.
We had a good time on school camp. It took an hour and a half to get to our camp. After we arrived we got to explore the camp site. Once we had lunch we went ice skating I hadn't been before so I wasn't very good. After tea we played some team building games. The next morning we had breakfast then we got ready to go skiing. Not many of us had done skiing and snowboarding so it was funny watching people fall over. Later in the night we went into the hot pools. The next day we went tubing. It was really really fun but it makes you feel sick if you get spun. We were going to go biking and walking but it was canceled because there was to much bad weather so we headed home.
